Sofolanork Plus is a combination medicine containing Sofosbuvir 400 mg (sold separately as Sofolanork) plus Ledipasvir 90 mg. It contains two direct-acting antiviral drugs that target different steps of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) lifecycle. Sofolanork Plus offers a cure for adults with genotype 1 or 4 chronic Hepatitis C and for some people with genotype 3.
For many people with these genotypes, Sofolanork Plus is an Interferon-free and Ribavirin-free Hepatitis C treatment. Some patients may improve when adding Ribavirin. Successful treatment reduces the risk of long-term complications of Hepatitis C such as Liver Cancer.
Sofolanork Plus can be used by people being treated for Hepatitis C for the first time and for re-treatment of people who were not cured with previous Interferon therapy. Sofolanork Plus can be used by people with all stages of liver disease, including compensated cirrhosis, decompensated cirrhosis and people who received a liver transplant.
Sofolanork Plus is taken as a single pill once-daily with or without food.
Sofolanork Plus works better for some people than for others. Several factors affect how well someone will respond, including Hepatitis C genotype, extent of liver damage and previous treatment history.
Most people with genotype 1 or 4 without liver cirrhosis should take Sofolanork Plus without Ribavirin for 12 weeks. Previously untreated people with genotype 1 and no cirrhosis can consider shortening treatment to 8 weeks. Some people who were previously unsuccessfully treated may benefit from lengthening treatment to 24 weeks.
People with genotype 1 or 4 who have compensated cirrhosis should take Sofolanork Plus without Ribavirin for 24 weeks. People with decompensated cirrhosis and those who have received a liver transplant should take Sofolanork Plus with twice-daily Ribavirin pills for 24 weeks.
Sofolanork Plus is generally well tolerated with no known specific side-effects of its own.The most common side-effects seen in people taking Sofolanork Plus are fatigue, nausea and headache. However, taking Sofolanork Plus with Ribavirin can lead to additional side-effects including fever, muscle and joint aches, itching, depression, Anemia (low hemoglobin level) and Neutropenia (low white blood cell count).
Before taking Sofolanork Plus, tell your healthcare provider about all your medical conditions, if you have liver problems other than hepatitis C infection; have had a liver transplant; have heart problems; or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed. It is not known if Sofolanork Plus will harm your unborn baby or pass into your breast milk.
